From “Can’t Even Hold the Torch Steady” to “Sparks Follow My Lead” 🔥 My Welding Ramblings

The first time I grabbed the welding torch, it was as slippery as holding a bar of soap 💥. As soon as it touched the steel plate, sizzling sparks splattered right onto my sleeve—made me yank my hand back in a panic. The weld bead was so crooked it could loop around the workpiece three times, and I was too scared to meet my master’s eyes when I took off my helmet.

Later on, ⚙️ I squatted at my workstation every day until my legs went numb, my arms felt like they had lead weights hanging from them, and the little holes burned by sparks in my gloves were big enough to fit my pinky. The scrap steel plates I ruined piled up in the corner, taller than my toolbox. My master always said, “Don’t fight the sparks—‘talk’ to them instead.” So I stared at the dancing light in the molten pool, going from being blinded by it to slowly following its rhythm.

Then one day, after finishing a weld, I glanced down out of habit—and ✨ wow! That fish-scale pattern was even straighter than the straight lines I drew. My master leaned over, glanced at it, and said, “All that practice wasn’t for nothing.” I almost jumped up while clutching the welding torch.

Now every time I hit the switch, listening to the sparks sizzle and watching them weave into a shiny band of light before my eyes 🔥, I’m so glad I didn’t throw the torch away back then. Turns out, passion isn’t about talent—it’s just turning all those “I don’t want to practice anymore” thoughts into days spent dealing with sparks.
